Biography
Lauren Adriana creates bold and unique jewels combining brightly colored gemstones in audacious shapes. A 2007 graduate of Central Saint Martins jewelry design department, Adriana founded her London-based business with her partner Nicholas Briggs. Her singular aesthetic and remarkable designs are instantly recognizable and the pieces are made to exacting standards.
Significance
Composed of a rare deep blue diamond centering a multi-colored diamond pavé, the shield-like outline of this ring echoes the shape of the stone at its center. For the design of this jewel, Lauren Adriana for Siegelson looked to eighteenth-century Portuguese rings, with their high, pillow-like shape and elongated cushion-cut center stones. The diamonds in the pavé ground were handpicked to subtly complement and contrast the center stone creating a beautiful interplay of light and color.
Naturally occurring blue diamonds are among the rarest colored diamonds in the world; known as type IIb these diamonds are turned blue by traces of boron. The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History estimates that only 1 in 200,000 diamonds discovered has any hint of blue. Some of the most stunning and famed stones are type IIb and are believed to be from the Golconda mines in India: the Hope Diamond, the Wittelsbach Blue, and the Tereschenko. This 1.51-carat natural deep blue diamond is a superb example of the rarest and finest of diamonds. Sharing the same color and chemical properties as the Hope and Wittelsbach diamonds, and graded as type IIb, this pure blue diamond radiates an extraordinary and unique color. While most natural blue diamonds exhibit a grey color modifier, this ring shows no trace of secondary color, making it exceedingly rare and exceptionally beautiful.
The combination of an important stone with a masterful design makes this ring a magnificent jewel. The subtle design touches, such as the diamond trim around the shield-shape echoed by the diamonds set into the band and the curve on the underside of the ring that allows the cushion-shape to sit on the finger, make this ring a masterpiece.
